Organizers of the Indiana Logistics Summit will fly in some high-value
cargo for the next summit, Sept. 25-26 in Indianapolis.
They include Norman Mineta, former U.S. secretary of transportation,
and Michael Gallis, who is touted as the leading expert in large-scale
regional development strategies.
This is the fifth year for the logistics summit, which will be at the
Indianapolis Marriott Downtown. The focus is on how to make the
state's distribution, transportation and logistics industries more
competitive.
Economic development officials tout Indiana's location as within a
day's drive of 75 percent of the nation's population. Other
distinctions include a No. 4 rank in number of railroads and No. 5 in
truck tonnage.
Mineta was appointed by President Clinton in 2000 and served under
President Bush until 2006. He is vice chairman of Washington,
D.C.-based Hill & Knowlton.
The summit is hosted by Ports of Indiana, Purdue University and
Central Indiana Corporate Partnership.
