James W. McClellan

Senior Vice President, Planning, Norfolk Southern Corporation

Jim McClellan is Senior Vice President - Planning of Norfolk Southern Corporation at its corporate headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia.

He has held a variety of marketing, planning and corporate development jobs at various freight railroads, Amtrak, the U.S. DOT and the Association of American Railroads.

As Senior Vice President - Planning, Jim has overall responsibility for strategic planning, rail mergers, acquisitions, line sales and abandonments, passenger policy, public policy issues, and corporate affairs.  Jim’s efforts in recent years included the Norfolk Southern consolidation, 5,000 mile downsizing of Norfolk Southern, and the purchase of Conrail by Norfolk Southern Corporation and CSX.

Originally from Texas, Jim graduated from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and served in the U.S. Navy.

He is married with two children. Jim's hobbies include sailing, painting and "riding European trains every chance I get."
