The Indiana Logistics Summit is an annual event hosted by the Ports of Indiana
and Purdue University. Started in 2003, this event brings together top officials from industry, academia
and government to discuss how to make Indiana's transportation, distribution and logistics businesses more
competitive and what it will take to make this state a leader in the world of logistics.
The state of Indiana has long been recognized for its significant transportation advantages. In 1937, Indiana
adopted its state motto: "The Crossroads of America." But this is more than just a creative nickname - it is
a reality. More than 82 million people live within 500 miles of Indianapolis, and the state already serves as
a major truck and rail corridor. No state has more interstate highways passing through it and its railroad
system ranks ninth in the nation for total mileage. Indiana also ranks 14th in the nation in waterborne
shipping. These advantages, combined with the recent decision to phase out the state inventory tax, puts
Indiana in position to compete for logistics investment.
Transportation, distribution and logistics sector is a $1 trillion industry in the U.S. expected to grow 65
percent by 2020. Right now, Indiana has a real chance to take advantage of this industry's tremendous economic
development opportunities. But there is fierce competition from everywhere, and states that don't take advantage
of current opportunities will be left behind.
Participants in the annual summit, see the opportunity and the need to propel the logistics industry in Indiana.
Participants come to find ways to improve their own companies, to hear what the industry's top executives have
to say and to learn how Indiana can become a leader in the world of logistics.
The 2010 Indiana Logistics Summit will take place Oct. 26-27 in the Crowne Plaza Hotel
at Historic Union Station in downtown Indianapolis. For hotel information and directions, click here: www.crowneplaza.com/ind-downtown.
